What is Europe's relationship with the aftermarket?

According to recent polls up to around 80% of the automotive aftermarket supported Leave in July's referendum on European Union membership. That is a staggering increase compared to the 52% of the population who ended up voting Leave. I reckon we need to look into this and try to understand why this might be.
