Kent is number one for icy car crashes

Published:  07 December, 2021

With winter upon us, garages and bodyshops are likely to see cars coming through the door that have been in accidents caused by ice, but it might come as a surprise to find out that the area where drivers are most likely to be in such an incident is actually Kent.

Statistics from The Department for Transport, analysed by claims provider The Compensation Experts show that out of the 333 local authorities in the UK, Kent had the highest number of road accidents recorded in winter conditions, with a total of 310 accidents taking place due to frost and ice.

Lincolnshire came second with 284 crashes in five years, followed by Surrey with 272 accidents over the same period.

A spokesperson at The Compensation Experts commented: “In the winter months, drivers are suddenly being thrust into some of the worst driving conditions they’re likely to face on the roads. We urge motorists in these areas to take extra caution when driving and if the temperature does drop to freezing you should consider postponing the journey unless essential.”
