Keep it clean

Cleaning DPF filters is never the most pleasant task. Either they have to be removed from the car and cleaned with air, or the garage can attempt a ‘forced regeneration’.

To help this, additive firm Wynns has brought out a trade-only version of its DPF Regenerator chemical. This product can be added into the fuel tank or directly to the built-in regeneration tank on some models.

An active component in the cleaner reduces the combustion temperature of the soot particles to 450°C. This means combustion of the soot particles takes place faster and more easily so there is less risk of a blocked filter. If the warning lamp is only just on, the fluid can still be used, as it will burn some of the accumulated soot particles, allowing exhaust gases to flow through the filter and continue the filter regeneration process.
