Getting jiggy with it

Vehicle manufacturers are specifying the use of cold repairs during body repair wherever possible, using bonding and riveting materials rather than the traditional spot welding. To make a quality repair, you need to ensure the set-up and positioning of the vehicle on the jig is done right, says Globaljig Systems importer Tri-Sphere. Director Jim Masterson adds: “It doesn’t matter whether it’s a wet repair or a dry repair job. The position in the frame is critical. It’s got to fit first time, whether it’s a rivet or a bonding material. Second chances are very expensive indeed.” The SPR Hydraulic Riveting Tool joins its bodyshop tools catalogue which is powered by an air pump that delivers up to 50kN of driving force. It has a pressure gauge which ensures self-piercing rivets, used on tougher metals such as boron steel, can be used easily with Globaljig Systems.
