Castrol challenge

A trial programme in which participating workshops upsell advanced Castrol engine oils to customers is now underway. In a recent pilot involving 15 independent workshops, a third of customers upgraded to the product when given the choice and were happy spending an additional £15 to £25 on top of the basic service cost.

Steve Kent, the owner of German Tech Cars in Cambridge, one of the workshops involved in the trial, said: “Differentiating between our normal oil supplier and the higher-quality Castrol brand means that we have been able to offer a ‘Standard’ service and a ‘Premium’ service to customers.  Many of our customers insist on having genuine parts fitted to their cars, and premium oil is a natural extension of this, particularly where a formulation has been recommended by the manufacturer.”
