LKQ partners with Motorsport for workshops modernisation

Independent used car retailer Motorpoint has opened its newly upgraded flagship site in Derby — a project in partnership with LKQ Euro Car Parts.
Motorpoint said the collaboration represented its latest move to bolster in-house workshop capabilities across its 21 stores and two preparation centres, as it seeks to expand its services to support customers through the entire car ownership cycle, including preparing cars for sale.
LKQ is the first-line supplier to Motorpoint’s store network and exclusive training provider to Motorpoint’s technicians through the LKQ Academy.
Motorsport said the partnership played a key role in introducing the firm’s MOT servicing, with LKQ supporting DVSA approval, installation, tester training and MOT manager training.
Underpinned by a £1.5m investment, the new strategy has seen the business already MOT over 6,000 vehicles in its first year.
Upgraded
As part of the partnership, 12 other Motorpoint workshops have also been upgraded. Work is now underway to modernise other sites across the branch network, with the programme expected to finish in early 2026.
Mike Bell, head of workshop solutions and sales at LKQ UK and Ireland, said: “What we’ve achieved with Motorpoint is a tangible example of what we can deliver beyond just car parts.
“As the aftermarket continues to evolve at pace, our ambition is that Motorpoint and all the other partners who work with us to upgrade their workshops will reap the benefits for many years to come.”
Curtis Ainsworth, Motorsport’s head of vehicle preparation, said: “The transformation of our Derby workshop is a pivotal step in our strategy to deliver comprehensive vehicle ownership support, not just at the point of sale, but throughout the entire customer lifecycle.”
