The Motor Ombudsman wins tyre safety campaign award

The Motor Ombudsman has scooped up a prestigious award for its tyre safety campaigning.
TMO won the 2025 TyreSafe Online and Social Media Award for its ‘Make Time for Tyres’ campaign and lifted the coveted Michelin Tyre-sponsored trophy.
The accolade was presented at the recent British Tyre Manufacturers’ Association (BTMA) TyreSafe Briefing held at the National Conference Centre in Birmingham.
The annual event, supported by ‘The Tyre Lady’, Sophie Lyden, honours initiatives that have driven positive change and awareness of this crucial area of the motoring landscape.
TMO spearheaded two initiatives. The first targeted vehicle repairers across the UK to relay the importance of highlighting tyre safety to consumers, which was fronted by Sophie Lyden.
With the support of TyreSafe and the BTMA, the second phase of media activity saw the first-time calculation of the value of tyre rubber lost to under-inflation caused by driver neglect, which TMO said amounted to a staggering £112 million every year.
Accredited network
This is the second time that TMO has claimed TyreSafe’s Online and Social Media Award.
Bill Fennell, TMO’s chief ombudsman, MD and a contributor to Aftermarket magazine, said: “We are very grateful for the support that we received from within the industry to bring this programme from a concept to the public eye.
“We are also delighted to see the impact and the inroads that this initiative has made, and continues to make, in driving home the importance of regular tyre maintenance and safety, for which there
can never be too much promotion.”
TMO has an accredited nationwide network of repairers. This helps motorists keep their vehicles in a legal and roadworthy condition on a daily basis.
Stuart Lovatt, TyreSafe chair, said TMO’s campaign was a shining example of how innovative thinking and strategic collaboration can significantly amplify crucial safety messages.
“Their multi-platform approach, particularly the compelling revelation of the £112 million cost of under-inflated tyres, resonated powerfully across online and social media, driving widespread
engagement and awareness.”
