The new erWin: what stays, what changes

Your old erWin still works — but only for a while. A short guide to the transition for independent workshops.
The new erWin has been live in the UK since 20 August. It replaces the separate, brand-specific erWin sites with one official Volkswagen Group portal for repair, maintenance and diagnostic information, operated by Volkswagen Group Info Services AG. If you have not looked at it yet, here is the short version of what it means for your business.
What stays
- Your existing erWin remains available for a transition period.
- Licences you have already bought there can be used until they expire.
- Annual licences can be transferred across to the new erWin.
- An existing ODIS working context number from the old erWin can be reused.
What changes
- Accounts from the old erWin are not carried over. Your company registers once, from scratch.
- New licences can only be purchased in the new portal.
- Access runs through a One Business ID — one central company account with central user management.
- Licences belong to the company, not the individual, and are valid company-wide. Several employees can work at the same time, each under their own licence.
- Eight brands sit behind one login: Volkswagen Passenger Cars, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, Škoda, SEAT, Cupra, Audi and Bentley, plus diagnostic information for Lamborghini.
- Licence durations run from one hour to 365 days, by brand and system.
What to do next
Register your company at erwin.vwgroup-datahub.com. Two-factor authentication runs through an authenticator app — SMS is not supported.
If you work with ODIS, the working context is still mandatory — but you now store it once under My erWin > My profile instead of entering it with every purchase. The number is on your Group Retail Portal account, top left, and reads like GBR12345V: country code, your five-digit dealer number, brand letter. Get it in place before you buy — the licence period starts the moment you purchase.
Companies outside Germany are asked to run through a verification process – but the check runs in the background, so you can work in the portal straight away.
