Top Technician 2015 winner announced

After an eight month search, the winner of Top Technician 2015 has been found, with Andrew Gravel of ADG Autotech in Scunthorpe taking the title.

Andy beat runner-up Peter Melville of Oscillotech Vehicle Services, Tonbridge, Kent and took home a substantial prize fund including cash, a holiday, scan tools and equipment, motorsport experience vouchers and an iPad, all donated by the event’s sponsors, as well as the coveted Top Technician trophy. The technician triumphed at the finals held at Fiat Unetversity in Slough, where he overcame five challenges set out by the team of judges.

Both Andrew and Peter reached the final in 2014 and this year made it through the semi-final stage at GTG in Wolverhampton and through to the Final Two, awaiting the result which was announced at Top Technician Live. Andrew was presented with his trophy by 2014 winner Mike Harding, following a day of interactive training, attended by over 100 technicians who were able to take information from Frank Massey, James Dillon, Jim Gilmour and Charles Figgins of Blue Print, Steve Smith of Pico and Paul Marshall of Snap-on.

Event Organiser Nicola St. Clair commented: “All our finalists did a great job to make it that far in the competition. This year’s event saw technicians from all over the UK enter and we should be proud to show that our industry has so many talented people within it. Top Technician exists to highlight the skills that today’s technicians have to overcome and this year, Andrew’s dedication to training has paid off and it is a well-deserved win.

“Top Technician 2015 is supported by a group of leading industry companies committed to providing workshops with the support and training needed to keep abreast of today’s increasingly complex vehicle technology. Thank you to ACtronics, Blue Print, Comma, febi, MEYLE, Pico, and Snap-on for their support. We also salute our long-standing technical partner, the IMI, for their invaluable contribution to the competition.”
