WD-40 adds water-based degreaser to Specialist range

WD-40 Company has launched its first water-based formula, adding a new degreaser to its Specialist range.

WD-40 Specialist Professional Degreaser (Water-Based) is a ready-to-use cleaner that can also be diluted for different applications. Product testing carried out by the company found that 98% of tradespeople said it met their needs.

For independent garages, suggested applications include engine bay cleaning, degreasing cylinder heads and engine blocks, cleaning gearbox casings and removing oil contamination before repairs. It can also be used to clean workshop benches and tools.

The product is also aimed at commercial vehicle workshops and bodyshops. Applications include degreasing HGV chassis and engine components, cleaning fifth-wheel coupling plates and trailer landing gear, as well as cleaning mechanical components and spray booth equipment.

WD-40 Company says the biodegradable formula cuts through dirt and grime even at low concentrations. It is non-abrasive and non-flammable and can be used on paintwork, steel, aluminium, plastic and rubber.

The degreaser is available as a one-litre ready-to-use trigger spray and a five-litre refill and is NSF A8 registered.

James Jermyn, Trade Marketing Manager at WD-40 Company, said: “The launch of WD-40 Specialist Water-Based Degreaser marks a significant expansion into a new category of maintenance solutions for WD-40 Company, combining outstanding cleaning performance with enhanced efficiency and sustainability.”

The water-based product joins WD-40 Specialist’s existing solvent-based degreaser, which is intended for heavy-duty cleaning where fast evaporation and drying are required. The new formula provides a lower-odour, non-flammable alternative that can be diluted for different applications.
